A Letter from our Founder on IC Flake Floors
I’m assuming you found us by researching information about flake floors and you have been wondering if they are worth the hype. Let me share with you a bit about the process and what I have heard from customers over the 12 years I have installed the IC Flake Floor System in their garages.
Commercial-grade Durability
First and foremost, what you need to know is that an IC (Industry Coatings) Flake Floor is a commercial-grade durable floor that can stand up to whatever you and your kids and pets and your vehicles throw at it. It’s easy to clean, easy to maintain, and in over a decade of installation, I never got called to come back and fix a problem with it. That’s reliability you can count on.
Industry Coatings Difference
Now, I should warn you that everything I am saying about flake floors here is based on using the Industry Coatings materials that we offer to professional floor installers. There are other products on the market that I would not recommend and do not stand behind. Early on when I was considering adding flake floors to my services, I experimented with different brands and different methods. It wasn’t until I found the materials and processes we recommend here at Industry Coatings that I found the magic bullet to create Flake Floor Systems that last.
What You Can Expect
Let’s talk specifics and what you can expect.
- A typical residential garage floor takes 2 days to install with possibly a third day to clean up.
- You should expect 1-2 workers to be present during installation. While some parts of the job can be done by 1 person, you should expect 2 installers for most of the duration of the job.
- Your IC Flake Floor will cure in about 48 hours and you can safely drive on it from that point forward.
- You clean an IC Flake Floor by sweeping it. Occasionally, you can mop it if you want to with water and a gentle cleaner like Dawn. (Seriously. That’s it for maintenance.)
- The finish on an IC Flake Floor is chemical resistant, impact resistant, and incredibly abrasion resistant. In my own experience, floors that I put down 12 years ago with these products and this process still look like we installed them last week.
- You get to pick your own colors from a wide assortment of choices.
- It is affordable and will add to the retail sales value of your home.
DIY or Professional Installation?
Now, you may be wondering if you can install the IC Flake Floor System as a DIY project or if you need to hire a professional installation expert. My rule of thumb is this: if you have flooring installation experience and own (or can borrow from an old boss), all the equipment that you will need to do the job properly, AND have an equally qualified friend that you can rope in, then by all means, buy our product and follow the instructions on this site to the letter.
If, on the other hand, you do not specifically have any flooring installation experience (even if you consider yourself to be “handy”), this is a job that I would leave to the pros. Mainly because once you rent all of the equipment, purchase all the product, and add overage to your materials purchase to allow for inevitable errors (there are very limited windows of time to use these materials in a very specific way), you will probably save money and most certainly time by hiring a local flooring specialist.
IC Flake Flooring installs tend to be affordable, so, unless you are a flooring person, save yourself the headache and hire a pro.
Materials Matter
One thing I would strongly recommend doing when you call around to find a local installer is ASK THEM what materials / product they will be using. Industry Coatings ships our products for free all over the United States, so if they are using a different product that we cannot guarantee the same outcomes with, ask your pro if they would consider using Industry Coatings materials for your job. Our prices are reasonable and it would be worth the wait of shipping the materials to your pro to get the quality floor that you want and expect.
